I am  looking at getting a pup later this year/early next and thus looking to join a club at that time.  Just inquiring about the Muddy Waters Club – I have visited the website and see it is located near Steven’s point.  I believe I have even been on the ground briefly before.

Looking at your calendar I didn’t see when the next test(s) would be and was wondering when there were some if I could come and see what they are all about.

Although I currently have a lab (12 years) he is not a ‘hunting’ dog and my next pup I fully plan on training it – just would need some assistance and everyone I talk to says I should join a club.

I know I will have a lot to learn!

If you are from the Appleton/Neenah area, there is a Hunt test next weekend down in Brownsville, WI. The Horicon Marsh HRC is putting it on. Also talk to Patrick H about training.

Joining a club is a start...also get yourself some good training resources.
Evan Grahams smartworks book and/or dvd is a good one to start with.

training will be limited to a couple tosses per day with a sock or similiar to start...he will be a puppy for a long while and it's important to remember that he is a puppy so let him be one.
Basic OB starts from the minute you bring him home....
First things he needs to learn is No, sit, (come or here), kennel and of course potty training. Always encourage him and don't expect too much too early.

First off, my son and I had a great time at the test on Saturday!  My son was so excited he wanted to go start training our 11 year old lab right now  We mainly watched started and a little seasoned.  Didn't make it to Finished - seasoned was enough for me to decide 'that is what I want my dog to do'  - plus time didn't permit as I HAD to go to Cabela's yet!

Kevin, although briefly, it was great to meet you.  I look forward to training in the future.  Going to the test was a great idea!

Patrick, I will definitely take you up on training!!!! I won't get a pup until next spring (more than likely) but wouldn't mind helping you in the meantime if time permits - summer is pretty booked    Looks like we might be nieghbors!  I live in Darboy too!  (Right on KK - white cape cod with the camper in the driveway!!!!)

Although I have been told this, but meeting everyone assured me what a great group the dog world is.  I look forward to learning and training with everyone in the future.

I will get another taste in a few weeks as I am going with a close friend of mine to the NAHRA Test: 6-7-8 July at Kelley Farms, Marine on the St. Croix, MN.
